
Kent Hinkson Jr., PhD

Dr. Hinkson is a clinical psychologist specializing in the study, assessment, and treatment of trauma and its related sequelae. As a retired Non-Commissioned Officer of the United States Marine Corps, Dr. Hinkson is deeply committed to supporting his fellow Veterans as they transition to civilian life and access the care they need.
Currently, Dr. Hinkson divides his time between teaching full-time at Utah Valley University, where he mentors undergraduate and graduate students within the Department of Psychology & Counseling, and as a psychology research fellow for the Department of Veteran Affairs at the South Central Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC). In this role, he works as an investigator, clinician, statistician, and implementation scientist, focusing on advancing the understanding and treatment of PTSD, suicide, and moral injury.
With extensive experience as a clinical trainer, Dr. Hinkson is passionate about equipping current and future mental health professionals with the skills needed to provide effective suicide and trauma interventions. His clinical practice centers on working with children and adults who have experienced traumatic events, including sexual assault and combat-related trauma.
